As a Commercial Lead at Sydney Water, you will play a crucial role in driving the development and success of our commercial projects and partnerships with the urban development industry.

You will be integral to shaping strategic opportunities for providing water related services to new property developments, conducting detailed financial analysis, and contributing to high-stakes negotiations, ensuring that Sydney Water’s commercial endeavours are well-supported and effectively managed.

Project and Partnership Support: Lead the origination and execution of commercial projects and partnerships, ensuring value maximization and risk minimization for Sydney Water.

Financial Analysis: Develop and analyze complex financial models, including regulatory, tax, and structuring considerations. Provide recommendations backed by rigorous financial evaluations. Prepare papers and presentations for board and executive committees and facilitate external advisor interactions.

Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for improving commercial outcomes and supporting business efficiency including establishing, reviewing and implementing commercial policy and frameworks. Participate in project due diligence processes and support the development of robust business cases.

Negotiation Support: Contribute to negotiations, providing commercial insights and drafting term sheets and contractual agreements in consultation with legal and other stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including investment institutions, government departments, commercial partners, and major developers, to support project and partnership objectives.


Essential Criteria: 

  • Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance (Corporate Finance), Applied Finance, Business, Economics, Science, Engineering with post graduate commerce / finance qualifications or experience deemed equivalent supported by a relevant post graduate qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage collaboratively with all stakeholders and influence key decision makers across the organisation including senior stakeholder management
  • Demonstrated understanding of key value drivers and leveraging this knowledge to provide commercial insights and experience in providing recommendations using rigorous financial analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to breakdown complex problems, synthesize key issues and provide recommendations with a bias towards action.
  • Relevant work experience in either commercial area of a large complex organisation, infrastructure advisory teams or corporate advisory firms.
