About the role

The purpose of this role is to provide Major Projects with operational advice throughout the project lifecycle. The role will require an Operations subject matter expert (SME) with a background in cut-ins, commissioning, asset integration planning and execution, operational readiness documentation, handover, asset adaptability and flexibility from both a strategic planning through to a commissioning and handover viewpoint. The SME will be required to advise on issues and risks pertaining to the Asset Owner, Manager, Operators and other end users. A degree of independence from existing operating capability is necessary as not all assets developed will necessarily be intended for long term operation by in-house teams.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;  

  • Oversee the provision of strategic operational services and advice to the Major Projects leadership team to enable the delivery of the Major Projects Infrastructure Investment Program.

  • Experience and background in network operation and treatment systems planning and operational management including cut-ins, commissioning, asset integration planning and execution
  • Technical responsibility for identification of network impacts, across all networks/system types, should be articulated and where appropriate, strategies put in place to deliver changes to ensure delivery of a piece of infrastructure or a service does not result in negative impacts elsewhere. That is, there should be a clear, whole-of-network approach to delivery and integration.
  • Ensuring that Sydney Water policies, procedures and processes are implemented and to provide operation assurance for the Major Projects Infrastructure Investment Program
  • Ensuring the Sydney Water systems and processes are aligned to the needs of Major Projects key external stakeholders including INSW and DPIE in respect to operational asset integration planning throughout the project lifecycle

About you 

  • Relevant degree qualification (e.g. Engineering, Operations, Quantity Surveying) or experience deemed equivalent
  • Masters level qualifications and relevant industry accreditations considered favourably
  • Ability to actively contribute in decision making forums to influence governance strategies and address emerging risk
  • Demonstrated ability to form strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders to facilitate dialogue about existing risk, compliance and governance frameworks; inspires confidence in the effectiveness and appropriateness of adopted approaches
  • Shapes direction of high-profile projects and programs, spending profiles and timeframes by contributing effective insights and proven expertise in project delivery.
  • 12+ years’ experience in water utility (or other significant network infrastructure) in asset integration and operations strategic and tactical management in planning design and construction and/or maintenance delivery within the infrastructure/utilities sectors
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining strong trusted business relationships, particularly in an advisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving complex issues arising from conflicting priorities and agendas involving diverse and complex stakeholder groups
