We are seeking an Asset Engineer to join the Maintenance Engineering – Water team, providing technical leadership in defining maintenance and renewal plans for Water Network assets.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring Sydney Water meets its obligations, balancing cost, risk, and performance across the asset lifecycle, from creation through to maintenance and renewals.

Please note: This role is known as Lead Maintenance Engineer/Scientist/Specialist within Sydney Water.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of 1-5 year maintenance and renewal plans to ensure both new and existing assets have appropriate strategies to meet organisational performance, cost, and risk goals.
  • Review and develop asset maintenance and renewal strategies, ensuring alignment with the standards set by the Strategic Asset Management and Performance Teams.
  • Oversee condition assessments for all assets, monitor risks, and address issues, including reviewing specialist asset condition assessments.
  • Prepare business cases for seed funding for asset renewals.
  • Respond to frontline operational needs and may require plant or site presence for connection with physical assets.
  • Lead risk mitigation at the operational level to ensure assets operate within licence limits.
  • Ensure assets are managed within Sydney Water’s Maximo Asset Management System or HIDRA.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving investigations for complex asset failures or high-cost/frequent failure assets.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • A comprehensive understanding of asset management or similar developed through industry experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with the ability to synthesise and consolidate a large amount of information for clarity of objective and outcome.  
  • Proven self-motivation and willingness to accept challenges and deliver assigned projects as part of a team or as an individual
  • Thorough knowledge of Quality Management Systems relevant to water
  • Advanced communication skills and personal qualities including ability to translate technical outcomes to operational needs

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, science or a related discipline, or experience deemed equivalent, with demonstrated experience and skills in operations, maintenance, and renewals of water assets.
  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of submitting your application to be considered for this role.
