To enable this growth, we are commencing one of Australia’s biggest water programs. This is being implemented through the most dynamic delivery framework of our generation - Partnering for Success (P4S).

Our commercial agreements are adapting to support this change. In an Australian first, Sydney Water is adopting the NEC4 form of contract. This suite of contracts brings plain English and a collaborative way of working right up front in the relationship with suppliers, contractors and consultants. Particularly for project and maintenance works, this is a new way of working and doing business for Sydney Water and the supply chain.
The P4S Environment Lead is part of a regionally integrated, yet centre led, project services function that sits at the heart of ensuring Sydney Water delivers cost effective outcomes that our customers value: whilst ensuring environmental standards and regulatory requirements are upheld. At a more detailed level, the Environment Lead is embedded within an integrated regional team to implement and ensure consistency, accuracy and efficiency of the Sydney Water Environment Management System, program and processes.
- Ensures integrated regional team compliance with all environmental systems, processes, plans and procedures whilst undertaking capital projects and operational maintenance works; embedded within an integrated regional team to implement and ensure consistency, accuracy and efficiency of the Sydney Water Environment Management System, program and processes;
- Assist in the implementation of the Sydney Water Environmental Management system, policies and procedures;
- Supports the identification, development and delivery of environmental awareness and educational programs;
- Review Construction Environment Management Plans (CEMP) to ensure compliance to the SW Environmental Impact Assessment;
- Conduct internal audits ensuring non-conformances are understood and corrective/preventative actions are completed; and
- Highlight potential issues with key stakeholders and the Project Managers, continually seeking practical ways to mitigate environmental risks and improve the quality and accuracy of environmental performance.
A close attention to detail is required, to ensure environmental support is provided in a professional and timely manner. The role also provides high quality environmental standards and compliance input to project teams for business case development, budget estimating, project cost planning and delivery tendering. Working alongside the Safety and Quality Leads, supported by the Construction Supervisors, the Environment Lead ensures Environmental Management System Compliance at all stages of works development and execution. This entails engaging in the development of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) as part of project planning, plus supporting the project managers by reviewing and approving the RDC Construction Environment Management Plans (CEMP) to for compliance to the EIA.
The role must also maintain an up to date knowledge of environmental legislation to serve as a key Centre of Excellence professional advisor. With a key focus on environmental excellence, the position also supports the identification, development and delivery of environmental awareness and educational programs. The P4S Environment Lead must also highlight potential issues with key stakeholders and the Project Managers, continually seeking practical ways to mitigate environmental risks and improve the quality and accuracy of environmental performance. Where incidents have occurred, the role will also ensure effective regulatory reporting is undertaken; whilst also supporting teams in the field to implement immediate, mid and long-term remedial actions. As part of this, a requirement will be to conduct incident investigations, providing root cause analysis and development of recommendations for improvements and interventions.
