About the Role
The Cyber Security Services Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding Sydney Water’s digital environment. This position supports cyber security operations by proactively responding to threats, managing vulnerability assessments, collaborating with internal and external partners, and ensuring compliance with security policies and standards. The role is essential in delivering secure, customer-focused outcomes and protecting the integrity of our systems and data.
In this role, you will:
- Respond and resolve cyber security incidents rapidly to minimise operational impact.
- Analyse and act on threat intelligence to proactively mitigate risks within agreed timeframes.
- Support and maintain BAU vulnerability scanning tools, ensuring scans are scheduled, executed, and triaged effectively.
- Collaborate with security partners to ensure optimal performance of SIEM and external scanning tools.
- Deliver clear, actionable cyber security metrics and dashboards to support compliance and performance tracking.
- Ensure consistent adherence to Sydney Water’s security policies, processes, and frameworks.
- Identify and escalate risks and issues to maintain a strong security posture and service reliability.
- Work with external service providers to operate and implement day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of all security services.
- Manage a heavy workload with tight deadlines, competing commitments, and priorities requiring negotiation and continual re-prioritisation.
- Balance business-as-usual obligations with enablement/deployment of planned project work.
- Ensure cyber security is maintained for Sydney Water’s data and services without unnecessarily inhibiting end-user experience.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Cyber Security, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in cyber security operations.
- Proven experience in cyber security operations or related IT security roles.
- Strong knowledge of vulnerability management, threat detection, and incident response.
- Familiarity with SIEM tools (eg. QRadar), vulnerability scanning platforms (eg. Tenable), and endpoint protection solutions (eg. CarbonBlack, Trend AV, Defender AV).
- Working understanding of Secure Edge solutions for web filtering and site categorization.
- Understanding of security frameworks (ISO 27001:2022, NIST, CIS Controls).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across teams.
