Community Education Officer

About the role
The Community Education Officer position is fundamentally a delivery role, focusing on the direct execution and implementation of community education programs.
This role requires hands-on involvement in delivering educational initiatives at Sydney Water sites, virtually, and within the broader community to fulfil the Water Literacy and Education plan.
Accountabilities & Deliverables
- Communicate complex and technical concepts for diverse audiences (such as preschool, primary, secondary and tertiary students, community groups, international delegations, water professionals and stakeholders) to achieve learning and positive reputation outcomes.
- Deliver educational programs at our sites, virtually and in the community. This may include school-based programs and community-based programs and activations.
- Assist with maintenance and care of resources, tools and equipment used in the education programs.
- Actively promote Sydney Water’s education bookings. Monitor and evaluate education programs and complete data entry as required.
- Represent Sydney Water and deliver presentations and educational activities at stakeholder/ sponsorship events (such as offsite school/ student events/ conferences/ sponsorship or partnership community events).
- Provide logistical support including event preparation, packing resources, bump in and out
About you
Degree qualification or equivalent training in science, geography, engineering, environmental science/engineering, primary/secondary teaching and/or equivalent experience in communications, marketing or a related discipline.

Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle (with full comprehensive insurance) is required for this role.
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering educational and learning programs within local communities
- Demonstrated experience communicating complex and technical concepts through education activities and programs aimed at the secondary and tertiary audiences in a range of learning environments
- Demonstrated experience in using multiple delivery techniques, styles and methods to better engage with their audience
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and/or managing large groups safely in informal outdoor learning environments
- Highly developed verbal communication and interpretation skills to deliver complex and technical concepts for diverse audiences (such as primary/secondary students, tertiary students, community groups, stakeholders)
- Highly organised, attention to detail, flexible and able to adapt quickly to changing environments and work priorities
