About the role

Water and wastewater are essential services. As a Business Resilience Specialist, your role is to coordinate the implementation of the business resilience framework across Sydney Water to ensure continued delivery of products, services, support functions and achievement of organisational resilience objectives to meet our customer expectations. This role may involve working outside of standard business hours at times to provide emergency management expertise in times of crisis. 

Your duties will involve:

  • Coordinating and supporting the implementation of the enterprise-wide business resilience framework across Sydney Water to ensure the delivery of aligned resilience objectives. This includes the prevent, prepare, respond and recover phases
  • Utilising change management methodologies to enable organisational maturity uplift
  • Developing and delivering Business Resilience training and awareness programs to raise capabilities and promote a resilience culture.
  • Coordinating processes to support resilience risk management, including business impact, threat and vulnerability and risk assessments
  • Providing specialist advice to Managers regarding threats, emerging trends and risks to organisational resilience
  • Advising and coordinating the availability of alternative recovery sites, and maintain recovery equipment, emergency control centres and associated assets and systems to enable effective response.
  • Advising and coordinating with Digital Business Incident and Disaster Recovery resources to deliver business resilience outcomes.
  • Supporting the business Emergency Controllers when managing disruption, including interactions with local, State and Federal government and emergency services organisations
  • Developing, maintaining, and enhancing the relationship with external agencies to help minimise disruption to customers and the community.

About you

You will be an operationally-astute self-starter with a passion for communicating the importance of water as an essential service in the community.   You will be comfortable asking questions to key business stakeholders to determine business needs, and you will use your excellent communication skills to champion business resilience across all areas of the business. You will have prior experience working in Business Resilience role and leading change. Your broad knowledge of business continuity management encompasses business continuity planning and business impact analysis, crisis and emergency management.

You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business Continuity Management, Emergency Management, Security Management, Risk Management or similar, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a similar role for a large multinational or government organisation.
  • Demonstrate a sound verbal and written communication skills appropriate for differing levels of seniority within the organisation.
  • Detailed understanding Business Continuity standards and related guidelines.
  • Familiarity with national and international standards in the fields of Organisational Resilience, Business Continuity, Emergency Management, Crisis Management, and Risk Management
  • Initiative, diligence, perseverance and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate the ability to persuade both internal and external stakeholders, focusing on optimal customer and organisational outcomes.
