About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Insurance & Claims Manager to lead Sydney Water’s insurance placement, technical advisory, recoveries, and claims management functions. This critical role ensures alignment with our risk appetite to safeguard the organisation’s finances, resources, and reputation.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Sydney Water’s insurance portfolio, including placement of cover aligned to strategic and operational risks, and monitor emerging insurance trends.
  • Manage relationships with insurers, brokers, iCare, and other service providers to ensure high-quality advice, claims support, and compliance with insurance obligations.
  • Provide expert advice to business units on insurance, claims, and contractual issues, and liaise with Legal on matters with legal implications.
  • Lead the claims management framework, including handling high-value and sensitive litigated claims and recoveries, and ensure consistent processes across the business.
  • Deliver end-to-end claims management experience including workers’ compensation claims, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Board, Executive, and committees on significant claims, recoveries, workers’ compensation exposures, and emerging trends.
  • Manage the Insurance and Claims team, budgets, and forecasts, fostering collaboration and exceptional customer service.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in insurance placement and end-to-end claims management, including workers’ compensation claims, with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships, influence senior stakeholders, and consult effectively with internal and external parties, including government and utilities.
  • Exceptional leadership, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet strict deadlines in high-volume environments.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, combined with superior written and verbal communication for high-level correspondence.
  • Demonstrated capacity to handle confidential and sensitive information, provide strategic advice with clarity and independence, and maintain attention to detail while seeing the bigger picture.
  • Commercially minded, solutions-focused, and flexible, with a proactive approach to anticipating needs and delivering key outcomes.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of submitting your application to be considered for this role.

  • Flexibility to travel across Sydney Water sites as required.
