About the role

This is a great opportunity to become the Senior Production Officer of the Georges River Hub team. It is a permanent position. The Georges River Hub consists of Glenfield WRRF, Liverpool WRRF and Fairfield WWTP and incorporate wastewater treatment, recycled water, biosolids projection, cogeneration and food-waste to energy, for the benefit of our customers, our community and the environment.

The purpose of the role is to support the Georges River Hub team to build a high performing culture while supporting each other to continually improve how we work together to safely and efficiently operate, maintain and upgrade our three plants. The list of upgrade projects includes the Liverpool Biosolids upgrade; Glenfield Biosolids upgrade, SP582 Upgrade, Glenfield OCU construction and the Glenfield blower replacement…just to name a few. 

This leadership position will require someone with strong safety credentials who is committed to best practice operations and maintenance. This includes:

  • Operate the plant in all conditions, in alignment with Treatment and Sydney Water frameworks including health and safety requirements, quality and information management protocols, incident response and business continuity frameworks
  • Execute on-site process and asset checks using available systems, processes and procedures
  • Take measurements from installed field instruments and execute lab testing, as required
  • Perform process and equipment monitoring using SCADA
  • Investigate, monitor and resolve issues identified during process and equipment monitoring activities
  • Perform diagnosis and resolution for more complex process and asset issues, electrical, mechanical and instrumentation issues within capability
  • Perform maintenance tasks, within capability and capacity
  • Communicate between plants within Hub and the maintenance provider, and prepare Hub for planned work
  • Provide updates to the Operations & Maintenance Coordinator for the Hub Monthly Operations and Maintenance Calendar
  • Contribute to the prioritisation of maintenance to inform Maintenance and Minor Works’ priorities, weekly scheduling, and monthly forecasting
  • Champion safety and wellness understand safety accountabilities
  • Support the Hub team to work effectively and assist or coach others
  • Support a high-performance culture. Role model SW values and behaviours and participate in a constructive and supporting working environment
  • Provide input to the Hub manager for succession planning and personal development opportunities
  • Assist in development training for new Hub members 

About you

The ideal candidate for this position will: previous experience leading teams and work within or have knowledge of the Sydney Water plants and production teams:

  • Have Trade qualification or Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Science
  • Have previous experience leading teams in a wastewater/resource recovery or production environment
  • Have great people and communication skills who can help us continue our journey towards becoming a high performing team
  • Share Sydney Water’s values and exemplify our Signature Behaviours
  • Have diverse knowledge and experience of water resource recovery plant assets and processes to ensure high-quality production in all conditions
  • Be committed to developing an effective Quality Management System/Management Operating System which is aligned across the hub to ensure we are always working on our priorities and to support us with achieving our goals
  • Have knowledge and experience to lead our team with diagnosing and solving complex process and asset problems
  • Experience with coaching/training to enhance team and individual capability
  • Have a risk focus and the ability to quickly develop and implement practical and proportional contingencies to the ever-changing risk profiles of our plants due to asset unavailability, process issues, wet weather events, trade waste events etc.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal/professional development over a sustained period with a growth mindset
  • Have a vision and ideas for digitisation of systems and processes to work smarter as a hub
