About the role

Responsible to develop, manage and deploy the innovation and research agenda across Sydney Water encompassing framework governance, project and change management. Key focus on critical research needs and investment priorities of the organisation that align to the overall Sydney Water strategy.

You will

·       Have Leadership and Management accountability for the Research and Innovation team

·       Guide and coach team members to develop people leadership, relationship management and commercial acumen competency

·       Manage research and innovation programs that provide evidence driven policy and strategy decisions

·       Identify, package and deploy opportunities to assess new science research and innovation relevant and compatible to existing assets that can be applied to reduce asset life cycle costs

·       Manage budgets, risks and provide regular reporting on key research projects to sponsors, executives and the Board as required

·       Advocate an open innovation approach which advances our ways of working and enhances collaboration with our customers and stakeholders

·       Recommend and advise on critical scientific trends, policy changes and technological developments while delivering targeted research to drive improved management of risk, defend Sydney Water’s performance and improve product and asset outcomes

·       Develop various business cases, monthly reports, options papers, decision frameworks and briefing notes to senior management and the Executive/Board

About you

You are visionary providing valuable input into research and innovation. Open and collaborative enhancing innovation advancing our way of working and promote collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

You have:

·       Degree qualification in Engineering, Science, Innovation or Business with additional post graduate studies

·       Demonstrated experience in leading research and innovation strategy, management and governance

·       Reporting and presentation skills at the boardroom level 

·       Extensive experience managing collaborative research partnerships

·       Ability to drive research direction and outcomes, based on need, to achieve tangible and intangible business outcomes to provide evidence-based strategy and policy

·       Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, liaison and negotiation skills to engage with people at all levels of the organisation and with external partners

·       Ability and commitment to actively contribute in a flexible multi-functional team environment to achieve business outcomes

·       Demonstrated ability to prepare various business cases, monthly reports, options papers, decision frameworks and briefing notes to senior management and the Executive/Board

·       Detailed knowledge of utility sector
