We are seeking a dedicated Privacy and GIPA Analyst to help drive our privacy and information access culture, support relevant frameworks, and promote privacy and GIPA awareness throughout the organisation
About the Role
As the Privacy and GIPA Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the Privacy and GIPA Manager, along with the Legal and Compliance team to ensure Sydney Water meets its statutory obligations under NSW privacy and information access legislation: the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act (PPIP Act), Health Records and Information Privacy Act (HRIP Act), and Government Information (Public Access) Act (GIPA Act). You will help identify privacy risks, manage privacy complaints and data breaches, handle GIPA applications, and deliver training and advice to build privacy and GIPA awareness across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Privacy Compliance: Implement and maintain Sydney Water’s privacy framework, conduct privacy impact assessments, manage data breaches, and ensure compliance with PPIP Act and HRIP Act.
GIPA Application Management: Manage, administer and make decisions regarding complex GIPA applications and handle internal and/or external reviews of decisions under the GIPA Act.
Advisory and Assurance: Provide expert advice on privacy and GIPA matters, prepare reports, and support business units with privacy and information access guidance.
Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver privacy and GIPA training, promote best practices, and build organisational capability and awareness.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the NSW Information and Privacy Commission (IPC), and other privacy professionals to support risk-based decision making and foster continuous improvement.
Framework Development: Contribute to the ongoing review and enhancement of privacy and GIPA frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
About You
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
• Strong knowledge of NSW privacy and information access legislation (as well as relevant frameworks.
• Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Information Science, Compliance, Business, or equivalent experience (legal qualifications highly regarded).
• At least 3 years’ experience in information management, privacy, or GIPA-related roles, ideally within government or utilities.
• Proven ability to analyse and resolve privacy matters, influence outcomes, and communicate complex issues clearly.
• Experience delivering privacy and GIPA advice, training, and supporting organisational change.
• Professional membership of information management and privacy associations.
