About the role

As the Engineering Integration Senior Manager you are responsible for the enterprise and functional leadership of teams accountable for operational acceptance, new/renewed asset integration and process optimisation. You will achieve this work through a combination of leading direct reports and working in partnership with operational, design and delivery teams.

Your team is accountable for contributing to the performance requirements and standards defined up front in design development and then ensuring that these operational and engineering standards are endorsed and handed over from delivery teams to operational teams. You have the opportunity to build a high performing team of facilitators and proactive solution focused leaders. The team will work proactively identify potential risk points and work across the value chain and throughout multiple stages of the project to identify concerns, facilitate solutions and address any performance or maintenance limits arising from capital delivery or delays.

The team works closely with a Project Manager from the Program Delivery team within Infrastructure Delivery and Design Directors from Design Development to ensure the performance outcomes and scope being developed meets operational needs and have clear handover measures defined.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Engineering, you will lead Operational Acceptanced Specilaists (~ 6) plus partner with operations engineers (~ 30). You will have access to engineers, specialists and operational acceptance personnel through the ETS Engineering teams.

Sydney Water is delivering a significant increase in capital projects over the next 10 years as defined in the Long Term Capital and Operating Plan. Your role in establishing and leading a highly professional engineering integration function which delivers smooth, effective handovers to achieve enterprise goals is pivotal. You will be working closely with the Planning Team, Delivery Teams, Operations teams and technical specialists across ETS to ensure your designs safely and cost effectively achieve compliance, customer and enterprise needs.


About you

This role will suit a leader with significant experience in leading design teams in complex engineering environments. To be considered for this position you will need:

  • Highly developed leadership and facilitation skills and demonstrated ability to build a high performing team and influence indirect reports.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in operations, capital interface management, operational acceptance or engineering, delivering to meet safety, economic, community and sustainability expectations at the right cost and quality at an acceptable level of risk.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and commercial understanding of quality/cost/risk trade-offs with a lens on short, medium and long-term outcomes.
  • Highly developed facilitation skills for proactively identify risks and navigating suitable solutions in a proactive way
  • Degree qualifications in engineering / science or equivalent experience to meet the needs of the role  
  • Demonstrated business planning skills and ability to provide strategic direction and frameworks for building and optimising business unit performance.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in engineering design role (water/wastewater and/or resource recovery is highly advantageous but other engineering industries are strongly encouraged to apply) 
  • Exposure to quality management systems (ISO 9000, 14000, 4801)
