The Waterway Health Manager role leads and manages environmental science and research work to improve Sydney Water’s understanding of the impact that wastewater operations have on waterways across its area of operations.

 Responsibilities:

  •  Provide evidence-based scientific advice on waterway and environmental health risks to inform wastewater servicing strategies and to shape negotiations on strategic environmental regulatory reforms. 
  •  Lead the development of environmental research programs and scientific studies to ensure they are well designed and well targeted, to support environmental regulatory negotiations that are critical to inform strategies, systems, business processes and investment decisions
  • Provide both people and technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to a team that delivers a risk based program of scientific studies, primarily focused on waterway health


Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in science, natural science or environmental science relating to environment waterway health, or equivalent
  •  7-10 years experience providing high level evidence-based advice on matters relating to waterway health and factors driving environmental risks/issues.
  • Demonstrated experience leading environmental research with external consultants, Research Institutes (Universities etc) and with Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW)
