Senior Environmental Scientist / Planner

About the role

Fantastic opportunity for a senior environmental planning professional to join a high performing and supportive team and further your career with Sydney Water! This role is responsible for delivering Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for our portfolio of infrastructure projects. Your professional expertise will also support strategic and operational business needs.

Responsibilities:

• Technical and Environmental Expertise: Apply your expert technical knowledge and judgement to balance cost, risk, and outcomes - ensuring environmental assessments and approvals meet legislative requirements, stakeholder expectations and environmental outcomes.
• Environmental Assessment and Approvals: Determine approval pathways, follow established procedures to prepare EIAs aligned with relevant standards, and obtain environmental permits. Provide technical advice and use enterprise knowledge to deliver projects efficiently. Adopt innovative work methods and enable continuous improvement.
• Commercial and Legal Responsibilities: Engage professional services within procurement guidelines, respond to relevant legislation, and remain flexible to support additional projects and duties as required by Sydney Water.

About You:

In addition to a Degree or other Tertiary Qualification in Environmental Science / Planning/ Management (or another relevant discipline) and a drivers licence we are looking for:

• Approximately 7 years’ relevant industry experience e.g. with an environmental or engineering consultancy, utilities or infrastructure provider
• Demonstrated experience in environmental planning, environmental impact assessment and environmental approvals for infrastructure assets
• Applied knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and current environmental issues
• Experience delivering environmental assessments and approvals considering risk, cost and performance drivers
• Ability to coach, mentor and provide on-the-job training for other team members
• Ability to work well in a team and develop effective working relationships
• Effective communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
