About the role:

You will work closely with Sydney Water teams and partners, and UTS project teams to operationalise technology tools to improve the ability to predict, measure and respond to water and sewer pipeline condition.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Actively explore, test, and develop technology applications across the asset lifecycle value chain, from upstream asset class strategies, asset class plans and predictive performance analytics, to engineering standards and maintenance program integration, to downstream implementation in maintenance and operations (including delivery partners), and associated feedback loops.
  • Drive efforts for innovation, continuous improvement, and a safety mindset
  • To focus effort on three to four pipe wall inspection tools (PWITs) that are sufficiently developed to fully embed into standard operating practice with further refinement in the context of application, capability, process, and ongoing maintenance required.
  • To utilise skills in mechatronics, machine learning, programming, microcontroller programming, and open-source operating systems
  • To determine where and when to undertake inspections using the PWITs and how they integrate with current Sydney Water’s inspection processes and renewals planning
  • Develop a methodology to interpret inspection data, including retrieval, storage, review, and decision on follow-up action required
  • Documentation of process and procedure consistent with current Sydney Water’s approach (decision frameworks, work instructions, specifications, standards, process documentation)

About you:

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering (mechatronics/electrical/automation) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience dealing with complex asset management solutions applicable to water/wastewater networks or similar and/or related engineering field
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and control system capability coupled with strong practical problem-solving skills
  • Experience with C++, Python
  • Experience with full Model Lifecycle Management (MLM) Experience servicing high-end mechatronic equipment, engineering, and design support, system assembly, testing, installation, commissioning, and follow-up support highly regarded
  • Experience in measurement, analysis and evaluation of system performance and condition and the development of strategies and work programs to improve performance, reliability and condition.
  • Experience working with various internal Demonstrated self motivation and willingness to accept challenges and deliver assigned projects as part of a team or as an individual and external service delivery partners to achieve common goals
  • Experience in developing, implementing and optimizing asset maintenance strategies for complex assets
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and lateral thinking
