Senior Advisor Stakeholder Engagement

About us

At Sydney Water, we are creating a better life with world-class water services. We are Australia’s largest water utility, providing water, wastewater, recycled water and some stormwater services to 5.3 million people. For 135 years, this has been our legacy – ensuring our waterways are healthy and thriving and the people of Greater Sydney have a safe, reliable water supply.

Sydney Water will service nearly two million more people by 2050. To enable this growth, in an integrated and sustainable way, Sydney Water will be making significant investments over the next 10 years to deliver a resilient water and wastewater network, protect the environment and support healthy waterways.

About the role

This role works across the organisation to manage reputational risks and opportunities that support Sydney’s Water’s strategic priorities and long-term plan. You will educate and build collaborative relationships with both our senior leaders and decision makers from government agencies, local councils, industry and peak bodies.

You can demonstrate an ability to build and maintain strategic external relationships and you easily build rapport at all levels of the organisation internally.

No two days are the same with a range of reactive and proactive initiatives to manage using your strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

Curious by nature, you are interested in the issues affecting Sydney as a growing city and capable of crafting the right messages and collateral to support our senior business leaders in their engagement.

Ideally you have a proven track record working in an enterprise-wide role in public affairs and engagement, from government, private sector, a peak body or within an advocacy setting. You are comfortable with managing high profile issues that can change quickly.

To be successful in this role, you are able to build support for your ideas, navigate your way in a large organisation, juggle multiple initiatives and work with competing priorities.

What’s in it for you

  • Parking options available
  • Childcare allowances
  • Parental leave
  • Novated lease options
  • Fitness Passport offering access to hundreds of gyms and pools around NSW
  • Flu vaccinations and discounted options on health insurance membership providers

About you

  • Formal tertiary qualifications in communications, public policy or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience working either as a Ministerial staffer, Government Relations Advisor or Public Affairs Advisor or a similar role.
  • Proven track record of public affairs and engagement across an organisation in a highly public arena.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and manage reputational risks, proactively and reactively.
  • Demonstrated capability of researching and forming an enterprise-wide view of issues and solutions and providing strategic advice to senior leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into concise, compelling messages.
  • Capable of managing multiple initiatives with tight deadlines.
  • Keen interest in current affairs and infrastructure, and its impact on Greater Sydney.

Closing Date: Monday 27th January 2025
