Team Leader – Business Customers – Customer Services

About the role

This role is initially for 6 months. A unique opportunity for a dynamic people leader to join and lead 15 team members ahead of structural changes, that will see this role become a permanent position.

The team consists of Business Customer Representatives, Customer Support Officers and one Technical Specialist. The team has an important role to case manage Sydney Water’s small to medium business customers trade waste discharge to our Network. We also ensure compliance from this customer cohort for Sydney Water Backflow program to protect the safe drinking water for the Greater Sydney Metropol. The team has a significant effect on minimising impact to our operations and ensuring protection of our customers, employees, Sydney Water networks and associated infrastructure. You will be working with the Head of Business Customers and the extended leadership team during an important time of change and improvements. You’d be someone comfortable with a changing environment, be a self-starter and able to see the bigger picture and help your team feel comfortable with uncertainty as processes are improved and the operating rhythm of the team changed to account for the future. You’re motivated to see Sydney Water deliver world class services and this is an opportunity to help shape a team that plays a critical role in source control of trade waste contaminants.  

About you

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as business, engineering, environmental science or experience deemed equivalent.
  • Hold or complete a Diploma in Water Industry Operations within two years of commencing the role.

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and effectively respond to emerging issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust, influence and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

Knowledge/skills

  • Sound understanding of business customer servicing and relationship and compliance management.
  • Highly developed leadership skills, including the ability to set business direction, build commitment and foster high performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and effectively respond to emerging issues.
  • Highest standard of professional integrity and a high degree of personal resilience.

Desirable

  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of the industry challenges relating to servicing and connecting new customers, source control, water conservation, backflow containment and process change.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling and Australian Sewage Quality Management Guidelines.

 Other

  • Working with Children check may be required
  • If Sydney Water internal employee, line manager approval must be sought prior to applying
