About the Role
As a Technical Project Director, you will play a critical role in leading the planning, execution, and successful delivery of large-scale water infrastructure projects. Overseeing projects from $100 million to $1.5 billion, contributing to programs of work reaching up to $3 billion! This role drives strategic decision-making, ensures technical excellence and navigates commercial and stakeholder complexities while contributing to some of Sydney’s most significant water projects, including Advanced water recycling facilities, Sydney’s first purified recycled water plant, Sustainable upgrades and major water and wastewater treatment plants and networks
Key Responsibilities
- Technical & Strategic Leadership: Lead all engineering work ensuring it aligns with technical specifications, procurement requirements, and the Project Management Plan while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Engineering Support & Collaboration: Provide expert technical advice to project teams and contractors, ensuring effective delivery from initiation through to handover and closeout.
- Innovation & Design Integration: Evaluate market innovations, drive the adoption of new technologies, and integrate sustainable solutions that support Sydney Water’s strategic objectives.
- Decision-Making & Problem-Solving: Lead with operational expertise to facilitate technical decision-making, balancing risk, performance, cost, and commercial viability to optimize project outcomes across stakeholders and delivery partners.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Governance: Collaborate across project working groups and leadership forums, internal and external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, community representatives, and industry partners, ensuring clear engaging communication.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- Qualifications & Expertise: A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, with professional certifications highly desirable.
- Technical Leadership & Project Management: Proven experience facilitating technical decision-making, leading engineering and design & delivery aspects of major, complex infrastructure projects across multiple asset lifecycle.
- Commercial & Risk Management Acumen: Ability to manage commercial arrangements, assess technical alternatives, and drive value-for-money outcomes while mitigating business risks.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent negotiation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to build relationships and confidently representing Sydney Water in public forums, media engagements, and industry events.
- Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of engineering legislation, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies relevant to large-scale capital projects.
