About the role

The role is internally titled as Manager, Planning Program Management. The Systems and Asset Planning team leads the development of integrated water planning and early design for assets, systems and regions throughout Greater Sydney. Our group is focused on ensuring Sydney Water delivers the right investments at the right time.

This is a leadership role, required to work collaboratively across the business to deliver the portfolio of planning and early design projects set by Sydney Water’s $1B/annum capital infrastructure investment program. The successful applicant will work closely with Sydney Water’s two delivery teams - Program Delivery and Major Projects - to maintain and improve processes and reporting.

You will

  • Lead a specialist project management team of both Sydney Water and consultant staff, ensuring time, cost and quality on projects within the planning and early design portfolio.
  • Be responsible as Business Lead for Sydney Water’s Planning Partner Contract, a 10-year partnering arrangement that is part of our Partnering for Success procurement model, and which is the first of its kind in the Australian water sector.
  • Manage operating budget that exceeds $10M/annum, on behalf of the Systems and Asset Planning business.
  • Work with other business units to effectively understand resourcing needs and prioritise planning and early design projects accordingly.
  • Develop our project management capability within Systems and Asset Planning.

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Business Management, Finance, Commerce or Portfolio and Program management, Project Management or Engineering
  • Post graduate qualifications in Program and Project Management or Engineering or similar related qualification will be highly regarded.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with demonstrated experience and skills in project, program, portfolio management and/or business operations management.
  • Leading teams, coaching, developing and performance management.
  • Dealing with regulators and stakeholder groups, internal and external.
  • Change management with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive change.
  • Commercial understanding of quality/cost/risk trade-offs with a lens on short, medium and long-term outcomes.
  • Understanding and experience with major water or other similar utility is highly desirable.
