About the role

The Benefits Manager will lead the establishment, development, and ongoing management of a Portfolio Benefits Management framework.

This a pivotal role in providing alignment and clear links between infrastructure investment, asset performance, and Sydney Water’s strategic objectives. This position will play an important role in the development of Sydney Water’s upcoming 2025-30 IPART submission and demonstrating Sydney Water get the best value and realise the full benefits of their investment.

The Benefits Manager will drive the process of realising benefits, including benefit identification, measurement, tracking, and recording benefits as they are realised and use the defined, intended benefits as a roadmap for the program, providing a focus for delivering change.

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Managing the design and conceptual model for benefits development, reporting and realisation across the portfolio, and supporting the performance of the Infrastructure Portfolio-Investment Management Office (IP-IMO) Management and Governance Teams.
  • Support the development and lead the embedment of the Portfolio Benefits Management Strategy.
  • Support and review Business Case development process including Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Financial and Economic Appraisals.
  • Support projects on the refinement, maintenance and use of benefit models while designing logic maps and presentation materials.
  • Oversee and monitor the creation, maintenance and delivery of robust benefit realisation plans and benefit reviews schedules, providing assurance that the approach taken by projects is aligned with the overarching benefits strategy.
  • Lead on work to provide robust benefit impact analysis of any changes to individual portfolio approaches and plans as and when required, ensuring the initiation of corrective actions with program managers and benefit owners.
  • Work collaboratively with the IP-IMO teams to develop and maintain reporting, collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends in reporting materials as required by the Program and Portfolio governance forums.
  • Owns the Benefits Realisation Management Guidelines and toolkit while designing draft register of benefit measures.
  • Supports the IIAP stakeholders with the adaptation and implementation of the benefits realisation toolkit to align the wider SW operating environment.

About you

  • Degree qualifications in a relevant discipline e.g., Engineering, Business or Finance.
  • Solid understanding of benefits realisation.
  • Knowledge of Discount Cashflow Modelling (DCF), Net Present Value (NPV), Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) calculations.
  • Ability to build, lead, and influence team to achieve a common goal.
  • Strong management, organisation, and business skills.
  • Advanced Business planning, commercial acumen, and budgeting skills.
  • Proven track record and experience in benefits realisation particularly for capital projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence various stakeholders to ensure successful delivery outcomes
