We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Cost Estimating Manager to lead our cost estimating team and ensure the successful development of critical projects.
About the Role:
As the Senior Cost Estimating Manager, you will lead the development, implementation, and management of cost estimation processes, systems, and tools for Sydney Water’s infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Development, manage a team of estimating professionals and oversee cost planning across all phases of the project lifecycle, from business case development to the comprehensive creation of tenders.
Your leadership will be critical in building a high-performing team, driving collaboration with stakeholders, and ensuring the delivery of accurate and market-competitive cost estimates for projects valued at up to $1 billion.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Development: Build and lead a team of cost estimating professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
Cost Estimation Processes and Systems: Develop and maintain robust standards, tools, and benchmarking frameworks to enhance the efficiency, consistency, and accuracy of cost estimation practices across projects.
Cost Estimation Service Delivery: Deliver accurate and comprehensive cost estimation services across all project phases, including tender creation & reviews, risk assessments, contingency calculations, and post-project evaluations, while continuously improving processes and aligning with best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, including designers, planners, and project managers, to align scope and cost estimation with project goals.
Market Insights: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, including benchmarking data and pricing schedules, to ensure cost estimates reflect current industry standards.
Continuous Improvement: Conduct post-project reviews, analyze variances, and refine processes to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of cost planning.
Risk and Contingency Management: Ensure the integration of contingency costs and risk assessments into cost estimations.
About You:
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, civil or architectural engineering, or construction management (or equivalent experience). Certifications in finance, accounting, or leadership are desirable.
Leadership Expertise: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
Technical Skills: Extensive experience in cost estimation across the project lifecycle for high complexity, high risk infrastructure projects,.
Systems and Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to assess needs, evaluate & implement systems, create processes, and develop standardized solutions. Strong strategic thinking, innovative problem-solving, and business acumen in project management and estimating.
Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with asset maintenance, renewals, and capital maintenance within large-scale infrastructure programs.
Collaboration Skills: Strong stakeholder engagement abilities, ensuring alignment across all project phases.
Analytical Acumen: Proficiency in cost estimation software (e.g., InEight Estimate, Expert Estimation, Candy) and data-driven decision-making.
