This role is based at one of three key locations: Chatswood, Redfern, or Olympic Park.

You will be contributing to Sydney Water’s large-scale, complex programs, which require exceptional people to help ensure the successful delivery of a significant projects, each ranging from $50m to over $1b.

As a Cost Controller, you’ll play a key role in delivering large complex water infrastructure projects by managing project costs across a diverse portfolio, analysing tenders, providing financial assurance, and driving performance through accurate reporting and forecasting to optimize project outcomes.

Your expertise in construction, quantity surveying and cost management will ensure that Sydney Water’s projects stay within budget, foster financial accountability, and deliver maximum value for the community.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Collaborate with project management teams to establish and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow to ensure projects are delivered within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with cost management business rules, including validating financial data, monitoring payments, and adhering to governance structures.
  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting on project performance, including monthly and ad hoc reports to key stakeholders to keep expenditures on track.
  • Review and verify project expenditures, including invoices and claims from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring proper recording and approval.
  • Perform cost-to-complete analysis and work closely with teams to resolve issues, ensuring projects remain aligned with financial goals and Sydney Water reporting requirements.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in quantity surveying, cost planning, commerce, or a related discipline.
  • A depth of experience in project cost management, forecasting, and analysis within construction, infrastructure, or water sectors.
  • Proficiency in cost control software and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate financial insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented mindset, ensuring accuracy in all cost-related activities.
