About the role
Help us innovate to meet the challenges of our growing cities as a Data Scientist in Sydney Water’s Business Intelligence Analytics and Machine Learning (BIA & ML) team.
Reporting to the Manager BI Analytics and Machine Learning this role will play a key part in transforming the way in which Sydney Water obtains and uses data, transforming from a report-building function to providing consultancy in advanced analytics to the Sydney Water business. The Data Scientist will also have the opportunity to create and lead Sydney Water’s enterprise-wide Centre of Excellence for AI/ML, establishing AL/ML deliverables and a community of practice, and will act as a Subject Matter Expert in this space leading best practices in AI/ML across the business and across specific AI/ML projects and initiatives.
Your duties will include:
- Working with Data Architects and Data Engineers to source the data needed to build analytic model.
- Organising data into usable formats
- Building predictive models
- Building machine learning algorithms
- Enhancing the data collection process
- Processing, cleansing & verifying of data.
- Analysing data for trends and patterns and to find answers to specific questions.
- Generating information and insights from data sets and identifying trends and patterns
- Support internal stakeholders to understand the business data assets.
- Undertaking machine learning experiments and test
- Developing machine learning systems to various use cases based on the business needs.
- Selecting appropriate datasets and data representation methods
- Defining, scoping, and planning data, information and analytics projects to meet business requirements.
About you
You are an enthusiastic proponent of all things AI/ML, keeping abreast of industry and technology trends. You can champion the uptake and benefits of AI/ML to a variety of business stakeholders, conveying to them in plain language the efficiencies and benefits use of AI/ML can bring to the business.
You will have:
- Degree qualifications in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent experience in Data Science field. Master’s degree qualifications will be highly regarded but are not essential.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Data Scientist or similar role
- Good understanding of mathematics, probability, statistics, and algorithms
- Strong expertise and experience with data structures, data modelling and ETL process
- Good understanding of Cloud technology
- Experienced in generating information and insights from data sets and identifying trends and patterns
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau
- Good scripting and programming skills in Python, R, SQL
