Head of Protective Security
The purpose of Head of Protective Security position is to lead and ensure an integrated approach to protective security to meet current and anticipated future threats.
- Lead the ensure the provision of enterprise protective security advice to Sydney Water
- Accountable for an integrated enterprise approach to people, physical, information and cyber security
- Custodian, accountable for ensuring that the initiatives related to the function are delivered by providing leadership and coaching, working collaboratively across the organisation

About the role
The Head of Protective Security is accountable for an integrated enterprise approach to all aspects of Protective Security arising from the requirements from the Commonwealth Protective Security Policy Framework 2018, the Commonwealth Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 and the Sydney Water Operating Licence.
The position will lead and ensure an integrated approach for:
- People security
- Physical security
- Information security
- Cyber security (IT/OT).
This position manages strategic relationships with key stakeholders including Commonwealth and NSW government agencies, industry bodies and service providers. This position will hold the delegations and authority of the Chief Security Officer for the organisation.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be expected to demonstrate the capabilities of Sydney Water’s leadership model. This includes enabling purpose and empower the team by driving / enacting direction that balances the requirements to service the customer, develop a constructive culture and demonstrate commercial focus.
About you
It is important that you have proven experience in implementation of effective security management systems, continual review and enhancement. It is also important that you have/ demonstrate:
- Degree qualification in relevant field - information technology, information security, computer science, engineering, scientific or management discipline, or equivalent relevant experience and ability.
- Approximately 10 years professional experience, with at least 5 years at a senior technical level and at least 3 years of leadership experience in a regulated industry.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for enterprise protective security and risk management
- Experience in leading teams providing security services, governance and assurance across fields of people, physical, information and cyber security.
- This position requires National Security Clearance.
