An opportunity to join our Water Supply & Production (WS&P) team as a Senior Operational Process Engineer, providing operational support for our 24/7 plant operations and responsible for standardising treatment operations and introduction of new technology to achieve consistent product quality outcomes.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Lead Operational Reviews: Oversee reviews of capital projects’ design, construction, and commissioning to ensure process functionality and Sydney Water standards, focusing on operability, maintainability, and safety.

Technical Advisory: Provide expert operational advice on product quality, technologies, and specifications to optimize outcomes, minimize costs, and ensure user-friendly assets. Maintain and manage unit process guideline (UPG) documents to standardise processes and train production staff in line with best practices.

Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure that operational needs are understood, and growth and renewal projects are appropriately designed and implemented across all phases (planning, options development, design, construction, commissioning, and operational) to improve operational efficiency and reliability to produce drinking water for our customers.

Specification Input: Develop and review specifications for product quality, materials, and chemicals used in drinking water to ensure compliance with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Performance Optimisation: Implement programs to enhance system performance, targeting improvements in product quality and operational cost savings.

Technology Assessment: Operational trials of available market technologies in pilot scale or bench scale tests and guide their selection and integration into the business to align with industry best practices, enhance product quality, and achieve CAPEX/OPEX savings.


Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or Science, or equivalent experience
  • Operational experience / Technical speciality in one or more of the unit processes used for Water/ Wastewater Treatment
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities to review and provide input into designs for complex plant upgrades 
  • Stakeholder management skills in a team environment
  • Demonstrated technical capabilities that would enable process related diagnosis/ root cause analysis
