About the role
The Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in optimising Sydney Water’s bulk water supply across our network of filtration plants and coordination of outage planning across the supply system. You will ensure regulatory compliance and cost efficiency for our customers. You will work collaboratively with internal and external teams to deliver high-impact, water supply solutions that directly contribute to public health and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert technical and operational support to ensure efficient bulk water supply to all filtration plants, aligned with approved Production Plans.
- Drive optimisation of bulk water operations by collaborating across teams to balance commercial objectives, regulatory compliance, customer expectations, and risk management.
- Serve as a key technical advisor, providing strategic guidance to internal teams and external service providers on bulk water supply and operational best practices.
- Coordinate system-wide planning and outages, working closely with stakeholders from catchment to tap to ensure seamless water supply operations.
- Provide critical support during incidents and emergencies, offering technical expertise and out-of-hours assistance to maintain service continuity.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including WaterNSW, BOO partners, Sydney Desalination Plant, regulators, and long-term strategic delivery partners, ensuring open communication and shared success.
About You:
In addition to a Degree or other Tertiary Qualification in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical) or similar and a drivers licence (you will be working and travelling across Sydney Waters network) we are looking for:
· Minimum 3 years’ experience in water operations or a similar process engineering environment
- Demonstrated experience in hands on trouble shooting, optimisation and technical support to water or wastewater operations
- Stakeholder management and facilitation skills, working in a team environment
- Experience with SCADA systems, software for analytics, Microsoft Office applications and ability to use customised software packages
