  • Join a leading client organisation which is one of Australia’s largest deliverers of major infrastructure projects, shaping transformative water solutions.
  • Work on world-class projects right here in Sydney, no airmiles required! Enjoy the flexibility of working hours to suit your needs.

Who we are:

Sydney Water is undertaking a 10-year multibillion dollar Infrastructure program to renew, expand & build infrastructure to support a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient water network for Sydney’s growing population. We provide safe drinking, recycled, wastewater, and stormwater services with a focus on reliability, affordability, and environmental sustainability. As a state-owned corporation, we prioritize customers and communities.

About This Role:

The purpose of this role is to provide Major Projects with operational advice throughout the project lifecycle. The role will require an Operations subject matter expert (SME) with a background in cut-ins, commissioning, asset integration planning and execution, operational readiness documentation, handover, asset adaptability and flexibility from both a strategic planning through to a commissioning and handover viewpoint. The SME will be required to advise on issues and risks pertaining to the Asset Owner, Manager, Operators and other end users. A degree of independence from existing operating capability is necessary as not all assets developed will necessarily be intended for long term operation by in-house teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical integration for major projects, ensuring operational considerations are embedded throughout development and delivery with significant financial impact.
  • Provide strategic operational advice to support planning, commissioning, and network integration for the infrastructure investment program.
  • Oversee integration from early design through commissioning and handover, ensuring new infrastructure complements existing networks and customer outcomes.
  • Identify and mitigate whole-of-network risks, developing strategies to prevent negative impacts and align integration with long-term efficiency and growth.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and alignment with external stakeholder requirements across the project lifecycle.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A relevant degree in engineering, operations, or a similar field, with postgraduate qualifications or industry accreditations viewed favourably.
  • Over 12 years’ experience in water utilities or large network infrastructure, with expertise in asset integration and operational management across planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to influence governance strategies, contribute to high-level decision-making, and address emerging risks in complex projects.
  • Strong capability to build and maintain strategic relationships, inspire confidence in risk and compliance frameworks, and provide trusted advisory support.
  • Demonstrated experience resolving complex issues involving diverse stakeholders and shaping direction for high-profile projects and programs.

Essential Requirements:

·       Please note as part of the application process, you will be asked to undergo background checks which includes a criminal history check and a medical assessment either online or in person.

·       You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of submitting your application to be considered for this role.
