The Waterways Senior Analyst role supports the development of the direction and service offerings for waterway management primarily focused on collaborative arrangements identified in the Parramatta, Cooks, Georges and Hawkesbury-Nepean catchments.

You will deliver a range of activities and projects that enable Sydney Water to improve waterway outcomes in key urban catchments, in partnership with stakeholders. The role works closely with the Waterways Leads and provides a variety of supporting functions to the team. 

What your day-to-day will look like:

Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with internal and external partners to advance project outcomes. Build and maintain relationships that enhance Sydney Water’s reputation as an effective waterway manager.

Project Management: Oversee technical aspects of waterway health projects, coordinating with relevant departments to achieve program objectives. Support the development and implementation of innovative water-related land use planning and urban design initiatives across various catchments.

Capacity Building: Organize and facilitate webinars and workshops to enhance the capacity of stakeholders in catchment management. Identify and explore new opportunities for partnerships and projects that align with waterway management goals.

Working Group Management: Chair and manage various working groups and collaborate with Waterways Leads to provide strategic advice and direction to councils and partners on new swim site initiatives under the Urban Plunge service offering.

Communication Strategy: Prepare and coordinate communication elements for the waterway coordination program, contribute to digital content for the Urban Plunge website and identify opportunities for promoting team activities through diverse media channels.


Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary degree in one of the following subject areas: Natural Resource Management, Environmental or Social Science, Urban Planning, Environmental Engineering, Business or a related field. 
  • Experience and knowledge of integrated water management, urban waterway health or water sensitive city concepts with relevant research and best practice experience.
  • Ability to understand the current policy, regulation and standards for urban waterway management and urban water servicing.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of plans, submissions and reports relevant to waterways management.
  • Demonstrated organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others, including consultants and contractors to undertake various components of a complex project.
