The Senior Contract Manager role will manage supplier contracts across a diverse range of water resource recovery facilities.  Although broad in scope, the role will have a focus on operations and maintenance contracts of water resource recovery facilities involving capital infrastructure work such as the new Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre project. Based at Potts Hill and onsite, the role will require some flexibility and travel to a range of sites across Sydney and the Illawarra.

About the role:

This Senior role plays a key part in making sure Sydney Water achieves operational, commercial, safety, environmental, and regulatory outcomes from its major contracts.

This role will have leadership accountability of contractor operations and performance, contract and commercial management, ensuring regulatory outcomes are met while balancing risks. The role will also be overseeing the integration of capital project works interfacing with plant operations. 

The initial focus on the role will be ensuring operational readiness, setting up effective contract management and overseeing the handing over of the Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre from the design and construction phase to the operation and maintenance phase.

What you will be doing: 

  • Operational management of the relationships between Sydney Water operations team, our suppliers and contractors, and internal stakeholders such as safety, environmental, planning and regulatory teams, informing strategic and operational decision making with respect to these contracts
  • Setting up effective contract management, monitoring and reporting process. Ensuring effective contractor performance, communication, reporting and escalation
  • Ongoing contract management and administration of the assigned contract including incident management, budget management, data analytics, regular and regulatory reporting, ensuring contractor meet its contractual obligations and delivery of the contract scope
  • Manage the interface between contractor, operations and project teams, provide operation and contract input, and overseeing and work with contractor to manage plant operations to ensure integration of project delivery with the core plant operations
  • Lead and facilitate resolution of interface issues with input from relevant teams and subject matter experts, and escalate changes that impacts operations or regulatory outcomes
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee critical contracts to balance operational, commercial, and regulatory needs; lead commercial analysis within regulatory and operational frameworks; manage contracts in alignment with Sydney Water’s governance; and demonstrate ethical leadership in navigating competing priorities
  • Support the development of procurement strategies for Water Resource Recovery contracts, ensuring commercial, operational, probity, and risk objectives
  • Lead tender preparation and evaluation, including scope, KPI and pricing model development, provide technical assistance in contract creation and negotiation for effective organisational outcomes

Your Experience and Qualifications:

In addition to relevant tertiary qualifications or experience deemed equivalent, and a drivers licence, you will have strong relationship-building skills and be an effective collaborator

  • Relevant experience in the water industry and conflict resolution, ideally with a focus on wastewater assets and capital interface projects
  • Good understanding of the operations of water resource recovery facilities and wastewater treatment processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to present complex data clearly – experienced in the use of MS Excel and Power BI would be beneficial
  • Demonstrated initiative in work management and process improvements.
