About the role

Reporting to the Head of Water Quality you will review and report on water quality trends, performance and risks, and work on programs to develop and deliver improved performance. Your work will ensure the water quality delivered to customers is of the highest standard, informed by customer insights, stakeholders, public health science, research, balancing cost and risk. This role will work in accordance with procedures to meet customer quality and time expectations and regulatory and operational requirements.

Daily duties include monitoring, evaluating and reporting the performance, effectiveness and benefits of water quality programs. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Contribute to development and implementation of Water Quality and Recycled Water Quality Management System Frameworks to ensure compliance with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) and Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling (AGWR)
  • Participate in Risk Assessments to ensure key issues and opportunities are identified and managed through appropriate strategies.
  • Incorporate water quality research, innovation and technology
  • Provide expert advice and technical knowledge to support strong customer communications and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively across Sydney Water to develop and implement the agreed water quality strategic plans
  • Support engagement with regulators and stakeholders, such as NSW Health, WaterNSW, DPE, EPA, IPART, including the management of MOUs, regulatory reporting, strategic /tactical /operational discussions to influence outcomes, focus forums.

 

About you

You will have strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, trends, drivers and links to customer/ regulatory needs. As a subject matter expert, this role will require:

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering or science or a related discipline or experience deemed equivalent.
  • Understanding of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and the Australian Guidelines for Water Recycling and the application of risk management frameworks.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills managing across internal and external networks
  • Experience in water quality
  • Basic project management experience
  • Experience working in high performing teams in a positive and constructive environment
  • Knowledge of Sydney Water’s operating and regulatory environment.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in drinking and recycled water quality and collaborating with other groups to deliver outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with customer, regulator and stakeholder groups.
