Head of Stakeholder Engagement

The purpose of the Head of Stakeholder Engagement position is to build trusted relationships and advocates with key government and industry representatives to position Sydney Water for the future.

  • Lead and manage the development and implementation of a strategic, proactive and coordinated stakeholder engagement plan to influence key government and industry stakeholders

About the role

The Head of Stakeholder Engagement position develops and coordinates high level stakeholder plans and manage and assess their implementation by people across the organisation. This role works with senior managers across Sydney Water to coordinate and evaluate stakeholder interactions and actions.

Accountabilities include initiating stakeholder meetings and forums to build relationships and lead or coach other senior leaders to help develop these relationships. It requires contacts and capability across the socio-political environment, relationship management, stakeholder engagement, business collaboration, negotiation and influencing, issues management and project management.

Monitor and report on socio-political issues and insights and identify political developments and policy changes that may impact Sydney Water’s strategy. Responding to research findings, feedback and requests from Ministers. Government agencies and the Board to continue to build on the plan.

Develop and coordinate high level stakeholder plans and manage and assess their implementation by people across the organisation.

Develop highly targeted stakeholder plans to guide successful implementation of critical Sydney Water projects and to generate key stakeholder buy-in.

Lead, develop and manage Sydney Water’s stakeholder influencing plan to position Sydney Water for the future.

Work closely with the Head of Government Relations to identify opportunities and issues for government and help develop briefing materials.

Provide strategic advice regarding Sydney Water’s membership and involvement and participation in industry and advocacy groups with a view to leveraging these relationships to position Sydney Water for success.

About you

Strong project management skills in a collaborative environment with the ability to converse intelligently on technical, regulatory, financial, policy issues, major campaigns and key promotional projects. It is also important that you have/demonstrate:           

  • Degree qualifications in communications, public policy, public relations/journalism, economics, business or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • High level awareness of strategic and community issues and socio-political and policy trends facing government agencies and organisations delivering public service and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and providing advice on the socio-political environment to senior management, the Minister and Members of Parliament, local government or NGO.
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising and negotiating with senior executives and advising on approaches to external communications and building constructive, trusted and effective relationships.
  • Provide clear stakeholder management guidelines and principles across the organisation for staff who regularly interface with stakeholders.
  • Interest in current affairs, politics and public policy.
  • Experienced writer across a range of channels.
