About the role

In this role, you develop strategic internal communication plans and manage business communication initiatives to protect and promote reputation, identify issues and deliver strategic communication advice and early planning for the organisation. You will partner with the General Managers and heads of functions to identify and deliver major divisional communication plans that support, contribute to and are aligned with Sydney Water’s strategy. Reporting to the head of Brand & Communications you develop and lead our employee engagement and communication strategy working with People & Culture and the executive.

  • Manage the delivery of corporate communication plans that contribute and align to Sydney Water’s strategy and business plans. Project manage the team of corporate communications experts to deliver these plans.
  • Manage a team of Communications Advisors and support them with the delivery of group communication strategies for major projects, identifying opportunities and risks early, developing and implementing messaging, Q&As and engagement plans with appropriate measures of success.
  • Monitor and report quarterly on the effectiveness of business outcomes in the areas of accountability including employee engagement, issues status, and evaluate and report on internal communication deliverables and channels.
  • Develop an integrated group employee engagement and communications plan that addresses organisational objectives for the various audience segments (leadership, office and field staff, contractors).

About you

  • Degree qualifications in communications, public policy, business or related field.
  • A minimum 10 years’ experience working as a senior Corporate Affairs advisor in a major corporation, government department or agency environment.
  • Strong business acumen with the capacity to liaise and work with senior management and other Corporate Public Affairs team members to determine positions on public policy issues, both proactive and reactive.
  • Capable of leading and advising business executives in stakeholder engagement and or management.
  • Experience in allocation of resources and assigns tasks to team members, other communicators and business partners.
  • Builds constructive and effective relationships to develop a deep understanding of business needs and objectives to tie communications work directly to desired business outcomes.
  • Identifies top drivers of corporate strategy and areas where communications can drive value.
  • Excellent understanding of the Australian/Sydney media (traditional, online, electronic), preferably with journalism, media, public policy and or government experience.
  • Experienced in leading crisis communication and emergency management communications supporting multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing proactive communication plans and issues based programs.
  • A history of delivering effective issues management frameworks and approaches that deliver compelling messaging content
