Head of Risk & Compliance
The purpose of Head of Risk & Compliance position is to lead and ensure risk management and compliance is an integral part of the way Sydney Water does business.
- Lead and support the development of robust and capable processes that ensure risk management and compliance performance across Sydney Water
- Accountable for enterprise risk and compliance frameworks, including second line of assurance and performance and improvement insights
- Monitor and advise on strategic enterprise risks and emerging challenges and their implications for Sydney Water, its customers and the community
- Custodian, accountable for ensuring that the initiatives related to the function are delivered by providing leadership and coaching, working collaboratively across the organisation to
- Liaise with IPART and NSW Audit Office for compliance reporting

About the role
The Head of Risk & Compliance will lead a Custodian team of risk and compliance experts who will provide specialist technical advice and business partnering services and monitor and advise on emerging risks and challenges.
The position has an enterprise focus and will need to raise risk and compliance issues for escalation in a way that does not lose sight of the big picture. This position attends Audit and Risk Board Committee meetings and so the role-holder must be knowledgeable and possess Boardroom gravitas. This position will hold the delegations and authority of the Chief Risk Officer for the organisation.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be expected to demonstrate the capabilities of Sydney Water’s leadership model. This includes enabling purpose and empower the team by driving / enacting direction that balances the requirements to service the customer, develop a constructive culture and demonstrate commercial focus.
About you
It is important that you approximately 10 years professional experience in risk management with at least 5 years at a senior technical level and at least 3 years of leadership experience in a regulated industry. It is also important that you have/ demonstrate:
- Degree qualifications in risk management, business management, engineering or similar, or equivalent relevant experience and ability.
- Detailed understanding of ISO 31000 (Risk) and related Risk Management standards and guidelines.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing an enterprise-wide risk management framework.
- Demonstrated ability to manage corporate compliance in a complex regulatory environment.
- Extensive leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes and business improvement.
- Extensive interpersonal, communication, influencing, liaison, negotiating and conflict resolution skills.
- This position requires National Security Clearance.
