About the Role:
Sydney Water is seeking the services of a marine scientist to sort and analyse marine invertebrate samples, and to maintain a marine invertebrate voucher collection. Reporting to the Biology Laboratory Manager, you will work collaboratively and independently in a NATA accredited freshwater and marine ecology laboratory.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Demonstrated ability to perform competently, identify problems with and trouble-shoot the following roles:
- Sort, identify and analyse marine invertebrates from ocean sediment samples
- Maintain marine invertebrate reference voucher specimens in the laboratory collection
- A relevant tertiary qualification (marine, fisheries) and/or demonstrated several years’ experience within a related scientific discipline
- Demonstrated experience working hands-on in aquatic or marine environments
- Ability to work as part of a team or with minimum guidelines to achieve business goals
- Demonstrated communication skills including using computer software packages such as Word, Excel, LIMS
- Demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health & Safety and the principles of equal employment opportunity
- Willingness to train in and work across various laboratory methods as per business requirements
Preferred experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance systems including NATA accreditation and ISO 9000 quality requirements
