About the Role:

Sydney Water is seeking the services of a marine scientist to sort and analyse marine invertebrate samples, and to maintain a marine invertebrate voucher collection. Reporting to the Biology Laboratory Manager, you will work collaboratively and independently in a NATA accredited freshwater and marine ecology laboratory.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform competently, identify problems with and trouble-shoot the following roles:
  • Sort, identify and analyse marine invertebrates from ocean sediment samples
  • Maintain marine invertebrate reference voucher specimens in the laboratory collection
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (marine, fisheries) and/or demonstrated several years’ experience within a related scientific discipline
  • Demonstrated experience working hands-on in aquatic or marine environments
  • Ability to work as part of a team or with minimum guidelines to achieve business goals
  • Demonstrated communication skills including using computer software packages such as Word, Excel, LIMS
  • Demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health & Safety and the principles of equal employment opportunity
  • Willingness to train in and work across various laboratory methods as per business requirements

Preferred experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance systems including NATA accreditation and ISO 9000 quality requirements
