About the role
As the Manager, Employee Communications, you will help us bring our strategy to life, building on our reputation for world-class services, growing water literacy and taking advocacy for a circular economy to the global community.
Direct reports include:
- Senior Advisor Employee Communications x 2
- Employee Communications Coordinator x 2
- Additional project-based resources as required
Accountabilities & Deliverables
- Manage the delivery of employee communication plans that contribute and align to Sydney Water’s strategy and business plans.
- Manage a team of communications specialists to deliver major employee communications projects, identifying opportunities and risks early, developing and implementing messaging, Q&As and engagement plans with appropriate measures of success.
- Develop a solid understanding of the business and build trusted relationships that support the delivery of highly effective employee communication outcomes that drive engagement.
- Monitor and report quarterly on the effectiveness of business outcomes in the areas of accountability including employee engagement and report on employee communication deliverables and channels.
- Develop an integrated employee engagement and communications plan that addresses organisational objectives for the various audience segments (leadership, office and field staff, contractors). This strategy will be informed by the results of culture survey and ongoing employee and communication surveys.
- Provide advice to People and Culture, and the Executive to plan and manage communications for future employee initiatives including strategy communications, union negotiations, business reforms and attraction and retention programs etc.
- Provide strategic planning, advice, coaching and co-ordination to Managing Director and Executive for communications aligned to the employee communication across all internal channels including: leadership forums, employee road shows, intranet and other channels, briefings, speeches, presentations, blogs, videos, Managing Director and General Manager emails and other communication requirements.
- Manage internal communication channels, ensuring consistency in messaging and approach and compliance with corporate brand guidelines.
- Ensure a collaborative approach to communications by developing avenues for dialogue, tapping into knowledge and intelligence and seeking views across Sydney Water and externally
About you
Degree qualifications in communications, public policy, business or related field..
Experience & Skills
- A minimum 10 years’ experience working as a senior communications professional in a major corporation, government department or agency environment
- Ability to partner with, influence and coach senior leaders in the delivery of effective employee communications
- Ability to build constructive and effective relationships to develop a deep understanding of business needs and objectives to tie communications work directly to desired business outcomes
- Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing proactive communication plans and issues-based programs
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including strong corporate and policy communication skills
- Outstanding leadership and people management skills to clearly and influentially articulate vision and build support
- Strong understanding of consultation principles and tools, particularly in the context of corporate/government communication channels
- Strong news sense and ability to think outside the square and identify opportunities to promote business successes and achievements
- Solid understanding of digital communications and emerging communication techniques
