About the role

The Process Improvement Delivery Team exists to bring process improvement rigor, methods, & tools to strategic priority areas and process improvements initiatives (enterprise to more localised) across Sydney Water. The purpose of this lead role is to drive transformation, deliver process improvements, and support uplift of process maturity across Sydney water using innovative process improvement methods. Ultimately, this role will deliver quantifiable process improvements, systems integration recommendations, value adding solutions, achieve necessary levels of process maturity and capability, and ensure seamless integration with 3rd party processes. This position will also be responsible for coordinating with other integral projects currently in progress that have dependencies or linkages. Accordingly, this role will act as a process leader to the business, challenging the status quo to ensure the achievement of significant business outcomes as well as to roll up the sleeves as required. Drive delivery of process transformation across Sydney Water for all strategic Priority Processes (including achieving that transformation through coaching of business, providing delivery services supporting a discrete number of the most high impact continuous improvement initiatives within the Supported Business Unit(s) and helping the Supported Business Unit(s) to prioritise initiatives).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Understand Sydney Water's Corporate strategy, vision, and group strategies and ensure a alignment for any process improvement initiatives or capability uplift activities.
  • End-to-end process design and alignment to identify and manage interdependencies. Accountable for all process designs and re-engineered processes for the PI Projects and ensuring they are documented, meet minimum process maturity standards/ quality requirements, designed to best practice, and are approved by relevant stakeholders.
  • Updating process reference model, working with the business process owners.
  • Understanding of processes plus underpinning systems, data, ways of working, capabilities, governance, and technology and ability to provide the management team with the right information to efficiently manage business improvement, business planning, and innovation.
  • Provide technical and specialist support on all aspects of business process improvement, innovation, and IT integration/automation ensuring linkage to business plans.
  • Provide leadership, direction and ensure professional standards and best practice act as key drivers within a culture of continuous improvement, value for money and safer practice.
  • Responsible for facilitating workshops, and deliver value add outcomes for the business. 
  • Align business problems with measurable outcomes and ensure alignment is sustained throughout delivery of improvements.
  • Support change management activities and external stakeholders, developing a strong understanding of their current and future requirements and the change required to meet future outcomes.
  • Deliver improvements using lean six sigma standards, to ensure impact, risk and prioritisation are key to success.
  • Translating strategic goals into relatable process changes, understood and adopted by process teams.
  • Influencing and taking stakeholders on the process improvement journey and creating a desire for process maturity/ improvement.

About you

  • Degree qualification in business or related field or experience deemed equivalent.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt or Master Black Belt
  • 5+ years’ experience in process improvement (lean, six sigma, TPM, TQM, TOC, Triz etc) or strategic projects
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing Lean, Six Sigma and/or other similar process improvement methodologies to identify waste and inefficiencies and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Strong analytical/ statistical analysis skills
  • Experience in successfully delivering improvement projects in a large complex organisation. .
  • Experienced in mentoring and providing team support to ensure Lean Six Sigma capabilities scale across the broader business
  • Experience in working with complex processes spanning across multiple teams and business functions.
  • Strong presentation, writing and communication skills.
  • Strong EQ, stakeholder management skills, and ability to communicate, influence, and persuade all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with teams to develop their functional competencies through process design and improvement.
  • Expert facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver to timescales.
  • Expert process modelling and business process reengineering skills.
