About the role:
You will be working alongside a successful team of planners and engineers as a lead within the treatment planning team. You will work with project teams and stakeholders to lead the development of plans to deliver the right product and service outcomes for the benefit of our customers and the environment, ensuring the quality of planning outputs and solutions.
As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for leading the development of both long term adaptive plans, as well as nearer term capital works plans, relating to new and existing water, wastewater and/or recycled water treatment facilities. You will also be involved in long term inter-system configuration planning and regional planning, as well as assisting with the development of business cases and tender documents.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Provide expert professional planning and engineering advice both within and outside the organisation
- Provide expertise and technical knowledge in integrated water cycle management and the development of best-practice planning approaches
- Realise within plans, integration opportunities across systems, drivers, customers, catchments, resources, materials, products and services
- Effectively present planning insights, advocate a point of view and address difficult questions
- Make planning decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, and evaluate risks, governed by the application of regulations, best practice and business policies and procedures
- Build rapport and maintain relationships to enable effective consideration of stakeholder needs and expectations as well as an ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders
- Allocate planning tasks and make decisions on the quality requirements of planning activities
- Supervise and technically develop planners in lower levels; build team planning capacity through coaching, performance feedback and encouraging career development
About you:
- Degree qualification in process, mechanical or civil engineering or science
- Minimum 10 years’ planning and / or design experience of treatment plants, including leading planning and/or design activities
- Translation of treatment solutions into regional, system and asset-based plans
- Knowledge of effective stakeholder engagement processes and collaborative planning experience
- Understanding and experience with major water or other similar utility
- Understanding of Sydney Water’s operating context
- Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and technical skill development
