  • Lead the development of forward thinking, multi-driver responsive, customer focussed, integrated urban water servicing and waterway management plans that define the actions required to deliver upon the outcomes set in product and service strategies. 
  • Permanent role, Parramatta location with flexible work options.

As Lead Planner within Treatment Planning, you will be working across Sydney Water to develop investment plans in line with the Long-Term Capital Operating Plan. The purpose of this role is to develop integrated, adaptive and optimised long-term plans for assets and products that achieve the organisations objectives, priorities and obligations

Building on the endorsement of Investment and Infrastructure Capital Delivery, you will be ensuring processes and requirements are fit for purpose to adequately provide expertise and technical knowledge in water cycle management, strategic planning, developing servicing concepts, developing cost models for financial and economic assessments, developing adaptive plans that contribute in the development of the best planning approaches. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term strategies for water resource recovery, filtration plants, and Purified Recycled Water (PRW) facilities.
  • Identify integration opportunities across systems, resources, and services to optimise performance.
  • Forecast infrastructure investment, resource needs, and manage emerging contaminants of concern.
  • Lead treatment plant capacity assessments of treatment plants, analysing process data to address performance issues.
  • Drive innovative, sustainable solutions to minimise Sydney Water’s carbon footprint.
  • Provide expertise in integrated water cycle management and best-practice planning approaches.
  • Coach and develop less experienced planners, supporting their growth and career development.
  • Represent Sydney Water at industry peak bodies and promote its achievements.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience effectively leading and taking accountability for complex planning programs and/or projects, including scoping and delivery of complex projects with several other project interfaces or other interrelated issues. 
  • Demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills both internal and external to the organisation, with the ability to establish credibility. 
  • Demonstrated successful experience dealing with stakeholder groups, internal and external. 
  • A demonstrated expertise in wastewater treatment and biosolids production technologies, including advanced treatment processes to produce high quality effluent
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring and technical skill development 
  • Expert knowledge and experience of integrated and adaptive planning approaches, including scenario planning.  
  • Experience in successful project delivery 
  • Experience in successful business case development is desirable.  
  • Experience in project management is desirable.  

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Infrastructure Management, Planning, Science or a related discipline
  • 10-15 years demonstrated experience and skills in the development and management of integrated approaches to urban wastewater and water treatment and infrastructure planning. 
  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of submitting your application to be considered for this role.
