About the role
Reporting to the Operations Leader you will manage the operation and maintenance of designated water and/or wastewater systems to achieve performance requirements within a team environment and in a safe manner.
The Lead Engineer will ensure efficient delivery of water, and/or wastewater services to customers by setting the operating parameters at a local level, operating the network and monitoring as appropriate. Operational assets include civil assets (mains and reservoirs) and mechanical & electrical (pumping stations and control systems)
This role will focus on one or more of the following areas, depending on the team you are assigned to:
To Operate Systems – that ensures efficient delivery of water, recycled water, wastewater &/or stormwater services to customers by setting the operating parameters at a local level, operating the network and monitoring as appropriate.
To Operate Assets (Civil Assets, Mechanical & Electrical Systems &/or Natural Assets) – that ensures the operating units and network components of the hydraulic system, and the treatment components of the treatment system are maintained to achieve their design capability at a specific standard of reliability and availability.
To Operate Product – that ensures efficient management of product related programs and key business activities. You will also work with business partners to develop solutions by providing technical expertise in network operations.
About you:
- A tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline and/or proven experience in operations
- Expertise in network operations, system hydraulics, maintenance/renewals, system planning, asset management, and treatment/quality aspects of water and/or wastewater systems
- Well-developed problem solving, lateral thinking, communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Well-developed skills and experience in dealing with customer, stakeholder and regulator issues
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in operating assets and/or systems for the delivery of water and/or wastewater product and services that meet customer and stakeholder expectations
- Experience in the measurement, analysis and evaluation of water and/or wastewater systems performance and the ability to develop strategies & work programs to improve performance
- Demonstrated success in working with internal & external service delivery partners to achieve common goals from planning through design, construction, commissioning, maintenance and asset management activities.
- Ensuring safety in network operation and shutdown activities conducted by internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated self-motivation and willingness to accept challenges and deliver assigned projects as part of a team or as an individual
- Knowledge of the appropriate Regulatory (including Licence, Environmental and WQ) requirements
- A solid understanding of the application of computerised systems for operations and maintenance and process management systems
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems relevant to water and/or wastewater systems
- Advanced communication skills (verbal & written) and personal qualities (innovative, motivational, self-confidence and tactful) including ability to translate technical outcomes to operational needs, and present as necessary.
