Head of Infrastructure Investment & Asset Performance 

This position is the custodian for Asset Management ensuring good practice throughout the value chain. It is accountable for management of the Infrastructure Investment Portfolio and monitoring and analysing the performance of infrastructure assets across the Corporation. The purpose of this position is to lead and ensure that Sydney Water’s assets and infrastructure are both efficient and fit for purpose now and into the future.

  • Work closely with custodians across the business other peers across the corporation and groups responsible for planning, operating, maintaining, renewing and delivering assets

About the role

The Head of Infrastructure Investment & Performance role works proactively with the business to ensure assets and infrastructure systems are being planned, maintained, operated and invested in appropriately to meet the needs of our customers.

The role is responsible for:

  • Leading and ensuring that Sydney Water’s assets and infrastructure are both efficient and fit for purpose now and into the future. To do this, work proactively with the business to ensure assets and infrastructure systems are being planned, maintained, operated and invested in appropriately to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Enabling the translation of customer insights and organisational priorities, and statutory obligation into tangible targets and aspirations for assets and systems.
  • Ensuring that all of Sydney Water’s investment in its assets are optimised on a lifecycle basis - i.e. the best solution at the appropriate time at an efficient cost. All investments are prioritised and that the most critical investments are made first and a balance across the portfolio is delivered.
  • Leading the production of the TOTEX annual work plan for incorporation in budget process and development of a 5, 15 and 30 forecast TOTEX for cast that reflect the needs of asset, system and regional plans.
  • Developing and producing meaningful performance reports for each asset class, infrastructure system, and product outlining current and forecast performance against agreed targets and benchmarks.
  • Providing meaningful analysis and insight into the performance of each asset class, systems and product to enable timely portfolio investment decisions in the best interests of customers.

The position works with the Management Systems Custodian to develop content for Sydney Water’s asset management framework (strategy, policies, systems and tools) and is required to translate customer insights and organisational priorities into tangible asset performance metrics and plans.

About you

As a senior leader within the organisation you will have approximately 15+ years relevant industry and leadership experience in the field of engineering and/or water enabling and CP or higher membership to Engineers Australia or equivalent. It is also important that you have/demonstrate:     

  • Degree qualifications in a relevant discipline e.g. Engineering.
  • Solution-focussed analytical, planning, conceptual and advisory skills, combined with innovative and creative problem-solving skills for effective management of conflicting priorities and timeframes,
  • The ability to develop advice on complex policies and strategies, based on sound judgement and flexibility
  • Experience optimising the balance between risk, cost and performance drivers.
  • Experience with customer and community engagement principles/techniques.
