About the role

Managing a small team of 5 direct reports the purpose of the Warehouse and Distribution Manager is to manage the overall warehouse and distribution operation.

Aligning the Supply Chain to Sydney Water’s long-term capital and operating plan (LTCOP) you will develop and implement sustainable processes to ensure inventory accuracy across the network, substantially reduce waste and costs in storage and transport by removing obsolete and slow-moving stock & implementing optimised transport routes in each region

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the storage, transportation and distribution of materials across the supply chain; the management of stores at wastewater & water treatment plant sites, and the management of relationships with freight carriers to ensure carrier compliance with company policies for product delivery.
  • Manage Potts Hill main hub warehouse and distribution operations to ensure materials are effectively and efficiently received, sorted, packed, stored and issued, and that parts are repaired in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Manage the storage and movement of materials to ensure that the business receives the right materials, at the right time and place on a consistent and reliable basis.
  • Work collaboratively with Planning and Inventory and the business, to contribute to the improvement of supply chain planning and the flow of materials to ensure inventory is optimised and stock-outs are reduced and/or eliminated
  • Monitor and achieve key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of warehouse and distribution operations at the Potts Hill main hub and treatment plant site stores, and to ensure that business requirements are consistently met.
  • Identify and implement improvements to Potts Hill main hub warehouse design, layout and capacity enhancements, cost containment, Potts Hill main hub warehouse operations and process including but not limited to the implementation of best practice cycle counting and annual stocktake processes for inventory accuracy, waste identification & removal and the management of stores at treatment plant sites.


About you

As a successful applicant you will have 10+ years’ experience working in Supply Chain in a large complex organisation, preferably in a similar organisation or industry sector with demonstrating your experience in working effectively with the business to identify and implement opportunities for warehouse and logistics improvements.

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics or related field, or experience deemed equivalent
  • Formal Project Management and Business Process Improvement/Lean Six Sigma qualifications desirable
  • Extensive knowledge of supply chain policy, processes, and systems, including major ERP systems such as SAP
  • Professional Supply Chain qualification, such as APICS and MCILT
  • Responsible for warehousing (receiving, storing, picking, packing, dispatch) and distribution activities utilising internal resources to deliver on high standard service level performance
  • Participates in the execution of warehouse management activities and has experience in the day to day operations of monitoring, recording and moving inventory
  • Demonstrates an operational knowledge of warehouse and inventory management principles, tools and best practices
  • Uses plans to monitor performance and completion of work activities, taking remedial action as required to ensure outcomes are met
  • Describes problem/opportunities and gains agreement that there is a problem/opportunity and takes responsibility to identify possible causes of a problem, suggesting courses of action to solve the problem, based on findings
