Network Programs Specialist (Dog Handler)

Work TypeFull time
Job no: EK3GJ
Category: Customer Delivery
  • Full time position in the Dog Leak Detection Team
  • Based out of Potts Hill with travel across Sydney Water’s entire area of operations
  • Work in a large, diverse, multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed team

What’s the role?

Sydney Water is Australia’s first utility to utilise purpose trained scent detection dogs to investigate leaks in the wastewater networks.

This full time position will work in the Leak Detection Dog team reporting to the Networks Resilience Programs Team Lead. Recent staff movements have opened this opportunity and we are keen to fill the role with a suitably experienced dog handler.

The Sydney Water Leak Detection Dog program is less than four years old and has already achieved significant success and growth in that time.

Based out of Potts Hills this position is quite specialised due to the unique aspect of working with dogs in an Australian first program, seeing you work considerable time in the field at varying locations within the Sydney Water Area of Operations, including coastal and bushland areas that have difficult access and terrain.

Who are we looking for?

As an experienced dog handler, you will have all the necessary training to hit the ground running to ensure this dynamic program continues uninterrupted. Working daily with our wastewater dogs, you will have the capability to meet the physical demands of this role.

To be considered for this position you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Dog training and Behaviour Certificate in scent dog handling through Steve and Vicki Austin Education or ability to attain this certification within 6 months.
  • Extensive experience in working with animals/wildlife
  • Extensive and wide ranging dog handling experience
  • Must be available to work outside normal working hours, either from home, office or in the field as required.
  • Attend the Potts Hill site daily as part of the dog welfare
  • Physically fit to lift dogs and equipment and walk/jog with them over several kilometres a day
  • Dog handling abilities that will be assessed at our training facility at Potts Hill

Application close date: Midnight Monday 26th February 2024
