- Water Quality Analyst -Level 2
- 24-Months Fix Term Contract opportunity, 35 Hour working week

We are the largest dedicated water laboratory in the southern hemisphere with Tier 1 quality in our laboratory and field performance. This allows us to provide the highest level of assurance to the community of Sydney Water’s quality product. We undertake sampling and analysis across all products, such as source water, drinking water, wastewater, recycled water, environmental waters (i.e. river, beaches, ocean sediments), stormwater, biosolids, sludges, grit & screenings.
We’re looking for Water Quality Analysts- Level 2 to support within our Field Sampling team for immediate and future projects offering 2-year fix-term contract opportunities.
You will be required to perform routine, non-routine and complex collection and field analyses of samples from a variety of environments, using a range of equipment to meet customer quality and time expectations and regulatory and operational requirements.
As part of this team, your duties will include:
- Operate complex scientific instrumentation, in various Field/laboratory environments
- Maintain, perform basic services to, and trouble shoot field instruments
- Interpret and assess quality control data and results
- Demonstrate understanding of the quality system and quality requirements
- Provide guidance in areas of quality and safety and provide relevant training
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure customer requirements are met and operations are efficient
- Identify and report potential opportunities to optimise assets, equipment, systems and processes
- Undertake problem solving and troubleshooting in the field and assist team members with problem resolution
- Provide knowledge of and compliance to NATA accreditation requirements
- Work safely, undertake risk assessments and report hazards and incidents
- Demonstrate technical competence to the degree required to be an approved signatory/authorise results
What are looking for?
Successful team members will enjoy being outdoors and working in the field, you will have experience in either a laboratory or field-based role currently working independently under quality accredited conditions.
You’ll have the ability to participate in afternoon shift roster (completing full week with later start and finish times on several occasions per year finish time approx. 6:30pm Winter and 9pm Summer)
- Degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline and equivalent working experience
- Current driver’s license, without restrictions
- Awareness of safety requirements related to the role and ability to demonstrate personal responsibility for safety
- Ability to carry out investigations pertaining to monitoring and control within a variety of water environments
- Experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting field and/or laboratory equipment under quality accreditation conditions
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance requirements relevant to the position
- Knowledge of the chemical process within a variety of water environments
- Demonstrated competence with computer software packages used within a laboratory or field sampling environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high attention to detail and experience with trouble shooting.
- Critical analysis and decision making, creative thinking and problem solving.
- Maintain appropriate fitness to safely perform the requirements of the role
- Boating license and experience is highly advantageous but not essential.
