As the Principal Environmental Manager you'll be at the forefront of shaping our environmental strategy, balancing cost, performance, and risk to meet our regulatory standards and deliver on our sustainability goals. What you’ll do:
Strategic Leadership: Reporting into the Head of Water, Environment, and Infrastructure Performance, you will oversee enterprise environmental performance, leading and mentoring a talented team including Environmental Stewardship, Regulatory, and Waterway Health Managers, as well as working with other teams across Sydney Water.
Drive Optimal Balance: Strategically manage the challenges of environmental performance, risk and compliance in an operational and cost constrained environment across the enterprise.
Executive Advisory and Regulator negotiations: Provide strategic and expert advice to the Board and Executive Leadership Group on environmental performance and EPA regulatory matters. Work productively to shape and influence environmental regulatory targets and Regulator relationships to achieve a practical and sustainable environmental performance environment. .
Performance Excellence: Oversee and enhance our Environmental Management System (EMS) to align with international best practices and ensure compliance.
High-Impact Communication: Represent Sydney Water in media, public forums, and community engagement, positioning us as a leader in environmental stewardship.
Your experience and qualifications:
- Industry and Leadership Background: Approximately 15+ years of relevant experience in environmental management, engineering, and infrastructure. Extensive leadership experience with a track record of strategic oversight and operational success.
- Balancing Risk, Cost, and Performance: Demonstrated experience in optimizing the balance between risk, cost, and performance drivers to achieve environmental objectives and outcomes effectively.
- Customer and Community Engagement: Proven track record in engaging with customers and communities. Experienced media spokesperson with a history of effective communication across television, radio, and print media.
- Relevant Qualifications: A relevant degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, or substantial equivalent industry experience.
