About your role:

The Digital – Operational Technology - Instrumentation, Automation and Control Services Team, (IACS) provide specialist services to Sydney Water for SCADA monitored Network Facilities

IACS provide a total provision of service Projects to our key customers for critical infrastructure and innovative solutions for Projects in all areas of SCADA Field Support, Telemetry, Instrumentation, IoT, and Flow monitoring.

The Electrical Technician role will assist the Instrumentation Automation and Control Services business deliver ongoing Project work on behalf of Sydney Water.

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to;  

  • Apply SWC isolations and safety procedures while working on assets.
  • Implement quality procedure – ITP’s, FAT and SAT Documentation
  • Inspect site works, electrical cubicles and site electrical wiring for standards compliance.
  • Supervise the undertaking and completion of minor civil and electrical work, ensuring they meet electrical standards and followed Sydney Water procedure.
  • Assist IICATS/SCADA Field Commissioning Engineers to commission assets after modification work.
  • Perform minor electrical project work as required.
  • Interpret and deliver scopes of work to achieve successful outcomes including scope validation, quotation preparation, materials procurement, resource assignment
  • Produce and Implement Interim Operating Plans to deliver project work on Operational Assets to manage significant risks related to asset performance – customer, environment, safety.
  • Contribute and provide an active involvement in project team activities.
  • Undertake field activities, including fault finding, in line with relevant work instructions and standards.
  • Accountable for managing and responding to live sites, including making decisions ensuring contingency plans are in place and correct equipment available.
  • Update and review work procedures and reports where required.
  • The majority of Sydney Water sites are “unmanned” are located in both built-up and unoccupied areas. Some sites are in remote locations without close or direct supervision such as National Parks or isolated “natural bush” areas.
  • As this is a field-based role working across all areas of Sydney Water Operations, most working days will be a start and finish at the work site location in the field.
  • A high percentage of the Project work will be at existing “Operating” Assets which will require planning for additional interim control measures to maintain Asset Operation while performing the modification work.
  • The role is highly autonomous and will be required to make tactical decisions working to tight deadlines with competing commitments, requiring re-prioritising of own work.

 About you 

  •  Strong Relationship Management Skills
  • A Valid NSW Electrical licence with working knowledge of the latest version of AS/NZ 3000 wiring rules.
  • Industrial Instrumentation certificate Desirable
  • A current NSW drivers’ licence
  • A valid/ ability to obtain a current confined spaces certificate.
  • A valid/ ability to obtain an OHS White card.
  • Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience in switchboard wiring and modification of power, control and instrumentation circuits. (VSD’s, Soft Starters, PLC’s, RTU’s, Instrumentation)
  • Demonstrated experience working under limited direction and to deadlines.
  • Experience with telemetry and interfaced SCADA systems and wiring desirable.
  • Experience with instrument calibration procedures and relevant Australian Standards desirable
  • Ability to supervise minor electrical construction related civil works as required.
  • Knowledge of the water cycle and wastewater desirable
  • Effective written and communication skills
