About the Role

The role involves providing specialised support for purchasing low-risk, standard goods and services within a central operational purchasing team. Responsibilities include identifying new suppliers through the Request for Quote (RFQ) process for Sydney Water. The role supports Procurement Operations by identifying areas of spend suitable for tactical or strategic sourcing, aiming to increase the use of contracted sources and enhance self-service requisitioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the buying process for low risk, standard sourcing for goods and services.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement team for contract and catalogue opportunities promoting increased self-service.
  • Ensure sourcing activities and related data are captured and managed in the required systems, for the purposes of tracking benefits.
  • Amend POs when required enabling successful 3-way matching and on time payment of supplier invoices.
  • Drive and promote P-Card use for goods and services purchases under $2,000 which align to the P-Card and Expense Policy.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in buying role, preferably in a utilities organisation or a large complex organisation with a large and diverse supplier base
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in using SAP Ariba and SAP S4hana
  • Familiar, have used and can successfully execute sourcing activities in SAP Ariba and SAP S4hana (or SAP ERP platform)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the supplier evaluation and selection process. Can manage the process and make well informed decisions about supplier selection.
  • Demonstrates an operational knowledge of sourcing principles, tools, and best practices.
  • Solid understanding of the role of a shared services centre and the requirements of its customers.

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of submitting your application to be considered for this role.

  • Flexibility to travel across Sydney Water sites as required.
