About the Team
We are responsible for the operation and optimisation of Sydney Water’s 24/7 Water Resource Recovery Facilities (currently 28 facilities) to meet EPA Licence, customer and community outcomes in a safe and cost-effective manner. This includes the resource recovery of biosolids, recycled water, energy via co-gen and hydro generation and management of residuals such as grit and screenings. The team also manages Operations for the outsourced water resource recovery facilities.
About the role
The purpose of this position is to deliver the optimal balance of operational, commercial, safety, environmental and regulatory outcomes, risks and opportunities for critical operational facilities and contracts in Sydney Water. With a strong focus on resource recovery initiatives and their delivery in an operational environment, candidates with strong operations backgrounds are ideally suited to these roles.
These include contracts for major wastewater and recycled water treatment production facilities, renewable energy contracts, the supply of residuals management contracts to Sydney Water’s treatment plants and other treatment related and servicing contracts.
The Recovered Resources team is based out of Potts Hill also offering flexible work arrangements and our team will need colleagues who can attend operational sites and undertake field visits as needed.
Servicing and providing leadership in the management of these contracts with a large focus on operational management and environmental safety:
- Manage operational interfaces between contractors and internal business units to make effective operational and technical decisions that balance commercial and regulatory outcomes and risks.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders as well as private contractors
- Support commercial analysis of options and decisions in the light of regulatory requirements and operational outcomes.
- Monitor and manage contractor performance against KPIs and contractual requirements
- Coordinate and conduct audits and site safety inspections for environment, performance, and quality parameters on a risk-based frequency.
- Provide technical assistance in the development, negotiation and establishment of contracts
- Lead safety attitudes and behaviours as well as the implementation of safety systems and procedures.
About you
- Understanding of operational environments and in particular production environments
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, science, commerce or law.
- Possess a current Driver's Licence (mandatory) and a White Card
- Relevant operational experience in the water industry or in production environments
- Experience in data analysis and presentation
- Excellent computer skills – an ability to quickly learn and utilise software packages for data analysis, operational control and contract payments. Experience with SAP would be highly regarded.
- An ability to assess risk in an operational context.
- An ability to communicate effectively at varying levels of the organisation, with diverse stakeholders as well as private partners/ contractors.
- Capacity to respond to out of hours incident management on occasion
- An interest in delivering Sydney Water’s strategic goals for Circular Economy & Recovered Resources, including Carbon Net Zero and Resource Reuse improvements.
