About the role

The Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation team is responsible for ensuring that Sydney Water anticipates and prepares for short term shocks and long-term challenges. Our team leads the portfolios for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation. Emergency Management, Investigations to understand root cause of incidents, Water Conservation and Drought Response Plan.

This position initially will work on our Climate Change mitigation portfolio which includes the implementation of our net zero carbon plan. During the first year, the role is jointly funded through an innovative collaboration between Sydney Water and RACE for 2030 CRC, and aims to accelerate the reduction of emissions of the organisation. Initially the role will consist of equal time between the office and field based projects. Over time, there will be opportunity to rotate across the other portfolios.

Sydney Water is looking to onboard an Advisor with emissions reduction skills to support the delivery and evaluation of decarbonisation projects and initiatives for the Resilience & Climate Change Adaptation team.

In this multi-faceted role, a successful candidate will be undertaking projects that have varied levels of complexity and ambiguity to deliver real and measurable impact. The Advisor will provide technical advice on application of low emissions technologies in operations across Sydney Water’s facilities. The successful candidate will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, engage with the service and equipment suppliers. The Advisor will deliver an impact analysis of undertaken actions and develop carbon-tracking tools informing decision making process of the company leadership.

The successful candidate, during the first year will:

  • Be part of the innovative collaboration between Sydney Water and RACE for 2030,
  • Help Sydney Water reduce emissions, by undertaking a range of decarbonisation-related initiatives and developing impact-tracking tools,
  • Be part of an innovative research project on different techniques used in managing change within large organisations, guided by world-class researchers from RACE for 2030,
  • Deep understanding of technological requirements, commercially available solutions, and recent advancements in implementing energy efficiency upgrades to the business operations. Fluency in the regulatory schemes and existing financial incentives for undertaking energy efficiency upgrades.
  • Project manage an energy efficiency projects, including instrument installation, safety, contractor safety, invoicing processes and quality assurance documentation

About you

You have analytical skills that can be applied to developing dashboards and reporting insights into net zero carbon progress. Project management skills that can be applied to energy efficiency projects, with the replacement to energy efficient equipment. You will have strong communication skills. You have a willingness to learn carbon management skills, including project managing energy efficiency projects and instrument installation.

 You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Engineering, Science) or experience deemed equivalent.
  • Project Management experience
  • Strong data analytics and reporting capability
  • Experience with Power BI or equivalent
  • Demonstrated Stakeholder management skills in a team environment
  • Demonstrated communication and negotiation skills with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, with a high level of autonomy
  • Strong leadership and change management skills
  • ability to inspire others to action, work in an innovative environment and champion new ideas.
