About the role

We’re looking for an Electrical Maintenance Service Technician to be the first call responder for breakdowns across our network. You’ll play a key role in maintaining essential services for millions of people and protecting the environment, while driving innovation to improve network performance, ensuring our assets remain safe, reliable, and operationally compliant.

This role takes you across Sydney Water’s remote, unmanned sites – from pumping stations and reservoirs to water gauges – where no two days are the same. If you’re proactive, skilled in electrical fault finding and maintenance, happy to work alone or in a team, and ready to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Respond to faults and support reliability: Act as first responder for electrical and instrumentation issues, while assisting network teams to maintain asset reliability.
  • Manage sites and risks: Oversee site operations during incidents and plan with network teams to manage safety, customer, and environmental risks.
  • Monitor and report asset health: Conduct condition assessments, failure prevention monitoring, and detailed reporting.
  • Communicate and coordinate: Provide real-time updates to internal stakeholders and work closely with Sydney Water’s delivery partners.
  • Field-based flexibility: Start and finish on-site using mobile technology, participate in afternoon/standby rosters, and travel across all Sydney Water network areas.

Sydney Water will provide you with a vehicle, phone, training and all equipment including PPE!

The role has an afternoon shift into standby component with a current frequency of 1 in 4 and is field based, starting and finishing in the field working in all weather conditions.

Who are we looking for?

You must have a current Electrical Trades qualification with some industry experience in the field and a current driver’s license. This role requires flexibility to work afternoon shift as needed and travel to various sites within Greater Sydney / Illawarra / Blue Mountains.

  • Valid or ability to obtain: Confined Space certificate including maintaining fitness, LOTO & FIFM procedures, and working near heights.
  • Relevant knowledge: Variable Speed and AC Drives, PLC’s, process instrumentation, level measurement control equipment, industry software and general Microsoft applications
  • Highly desirable - proven current knowledge and experience in network asset maintenance and operations, SCADA telemetry
  • Ability to work in unfavourable weather conditions and comfortable working with water and wastewater
  • Self-motivated and managed, with a positive attitude towards innovations, utilising smart technology and adapting work practices to drive efficiency
