About the role

As a senior team member you will play a crucial role in the delivery of currently budgeted projects and works, as well as mentoring and from time to time supervising other team members and laboratory methods.

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager you will carry out complex laboratory investigations and resolve abnormal operations.

Provide leadership and technical expertise in method development and validation. Provide advice on results and assess appropriate selection of methods.

Train and mentor individuals and supervise teams for all aspects of operation, quality and safety.

  • Define, maintain, service and trouble shoot, simple and complex field and/or laboratory instruments
  • Define, install, program, operate and troubleshoot remote monitoring equipment
  • Define, monitor, and assess quality control data, and advise on corrective action. Must also be able to verify effectiveness of any changes,
  • Define, develop, implement, and revise quality system requirements and be able to become a quality auditor
  • Have appropriate knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines, and interpret impact of changes on the business
  • Train and mentor staff on all methods relevant to the area, monitor proficiency program, and supervise teams in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager
  • Authorise results, identify abnormal results and define corrective action
  • Work with other team members to maximise efficiency of the sampling rounds or laboratory
  • Define and implement opportunities to optimise assets, equipment, systems, and processes.

 

About you

This is a laboratory-based role requiring a team member who can undertake collection and analysis of samples, which may include water, soil, sediment, and spoil with the following skills:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (Degree and/or equivalent Certificate in Science) and demonstrated experience within Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Greater than 10 years’ experience working independently in a field sampling or laboratory environment under ISO/IEC 17025 accredited conditions, in a discipline relevant to Laboratory Services.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance requirements for analysis of water, including NATA ISO17025 accreditation and ISO 9000 quality system requirements. Have the ability to become a NATA signatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform method development and validation, as well as to operate and problem solve a range of field and laboratory instrumentation
  • Advanced knowledge of the chemical, physical and/or biological process within a variety of water environment and ability to carry our investigations pertaining to monitoring and control of these systems.
